How Does A Quiz Lead You To Your Dream Customer?

Ever taken an online quiz?

Of course you have.

Online quizzes are everywhere.

Most likely you've seen your Facebook timeline fill up with "Which Game of Thrones House Are You In?" (Stark, of course) or "Which Chipotle Order Matches Your Personality?"

Quizzes are fun. But more importantly, they're valuable.

Lead generation quizzes can not only build your brand awareness,  they can take you to your dream customer's virtual doorstep.

Quizzes are an incredibly effective tool for capturing leads.

Using quiz-building tools (you can find many options online—we like Interact) you can easily make a branded quiz that speaks to your potential customers and reflects your mission

So, you know you need to capture those leads—but what makes quizzes so special?

Read on to find out!

Quizzes are one of THE best ways to generate leads. Your reader is already engaged in your content and motivated to keep going—and that means they're ready and willing to give you their email address. Why are quizzes so effective? How can you use a quiz to boost your digital marketing, grow your blog, and generate leads? Find out! | Hoot Design Co.

Five ways quizzes work overtime to generate leads:

  1. Quizzes showcase your expertise
    • Creating a fun, informative experience (like a quiz!) builds trust in your companyclearly you know your stuff!
  2. Quizzes flatter your potential clients
    • Everyone wants to find out more about what makes them unique. Creating an experience that speaks directly to that drive shows a potential client that you're interested in what makes them special.
  3. Quizzes let you captivate people who are already interested in what you offer.
    • Clients that have opted-in are 28 times more likely to stay in contact with you than someone is to reach out on to make contact on their own. That's huge!
  4. Quizzes are easy to distribute
    • Got a quiz? Send a link! Distributing quizzes through social media and your email list are quick, painless ways to get your content out there. In fact, 1 out of 20 people who see your quiz on Facebook will become leads.
  5. Quizzes have high conversion rates (think 50%!)
    • Actually capturing a passive audience member's contact information can be hard. You've got great blog content? Good for you—you've got eyes on your website. Now you need to have a way to contact them.
    • Opt-ins like free downloads that lead to a mailing list are a great example of an effective lead generator—and quizzes are just as effective, if not more.
    • Because your audience is already interacting with your content in a quiz (instead of just reading it in a blog post, for example), they're already participating in a conversation with you. Clicking their mouse and typing in letters are easy, since they're already clicking through each question: and, in fact, Interact has seen opt-in rates as high as 50%.

But how do you actually take your content and turn it into a great quiz?

The key is going to be creating a fun, interactive experience that is unique to your business—which can be more difficult than it sounds. But the payoff is worth the work.

After creating a few quizzes ourselves with the folks at Interact, we've got some major tips to help you out:

4 tips for creating the perfect lead generating quiz:

1. Showcase your company's most important value

Ensuring your quiz is on-brand with your business' mission and character is essential. For example, it just wouldn't make any sense for a computer repair shop to release a quiz about what your Instagram feed says about your personality. Keep it simple and true. This quiz is key to defining your values as a company.

2. Keep it short and engaging

To keep your reader engaged through the whole experience (and get them to the last step—giving you their email) it's important to keep the format quick and light.

About eight to ten questions is a nice rule of thumb: long enough to be engaging, but short enough that it's not a big time investment.

3. Use images

Using pictures as options users can choose from helps switch up your quiz's appearance and keep the reader interested. Sites like Pexels and Unsplash are perfect destinations to find free, gorgeous stock photos to improve your quiz.

4. Capture that email!

Heads up: Capturing your reader's email is THE most important part of your quiz. It's why you're putting in all that work in the first place! Finding a quiz-making service that allows you to capture emails is the bridge that transforms a fun experience to a worthwhile conversion.

4 Easy Ways to Generate a Mountain of Email Leads in Squarespace

Do you use email to drive sales?

Hopefully. Sending out e-newsletters allows you to get directly in front of your audience, guaranteed. Unlike other types of marketing – whether traditional (like TV or radio ads) or online (like social media marketing) – email marketing forces a personal interaction: Users have to click to read, click to delete, or view your email sitting in their inbox again and again when you send out a newsletter campaign. When you send out social media campaigns, they can just scroll on by.

But in order to drive sales with email marketing, you have to first build an email list.

Where should you start? Well, utilizing your website to grab email signups is as good a place as any. The goal is to turn casual viewers into subscribers, and then turn those subscribers into customers.

No matter what website platform you use, there's going to be a way to integrate a newsletter service (like Mailchimp, which we use, Constant Contact, or others). Squarespace, our website platform of choice, makes integrating newsletter signups extremely easy thanks to its flexible and intuitive structure.

The Squarespace backend is so flexible, in fact, that there are multiple options available to you for creating newsletter signup forms in just a few clicks.

4. Create a static page for newsletter signups

Creating a static signup page for your newsletter in Squarespace is easy as pie and offers some awesome benefits, like making the address easy to remember, keeping visitors engaged longer, and creating a more appealing signup page.

3. Use an announcement bar signup

Squarespace lets you easily create a bar that appears at the top of your site when a visitor comes. You can use this bar for anything by customizing the message and including a link – and it's a great place to promote your newsletter signup to capture new visitors.

Here's how to create an announcement bar:

  1. Select Design from the main Squarespace menu.
  2. Choose Announcement Bar.
  3. Input your text and choose where you want your link to go!

2. Use a blog sidebar signup

Utilizing your blog sidebar to capture newsletter signups makes sense: Readers are already consuming your content, so why not them another opportunity to sign up when you already have their eyes?

Here's how to create a newsletter signup in your blog sidebar:

  1. Enable your blog sidebar under Design > Style Editor > Blog SidebarNote: Not all Squarespace themes have a blog sidebar option. I love using this resource to double-check.
  2. Go to Pages > Blog and click Edit on your blog sidebar.
  3. Use the teardrop insert bar and insert a Newsletter Block.
  4. Edit your text and connect to your newsletter service!

1. Free blog content upgrades

This is the NUMBER ONE piece of advice we can give for growing your newsletter list: Create great content, then give it away.

We've said it before, and we'll say it again:

No matter what field you're in, you should be giving away free content on your blog.

I KNOW that sounds counterintuitive to anyone hearing that for the first time. You're trying to make money, not just throw free stuff around!

I get it. But the key to gaining traction online is to offer content that is USEFUL and COMPELLING. In other words, you need to be giving away knowledge or products that readers consider valuable and desirable through your blog.

Writing regularly on topics in your field is a must for blogging. And once you've started to grow your audience, a great way to convert those readers into newsletter subscribers is to offer free content upgrades in exchange for an email signup. Create content like worksheets, guides, how-tos, or other resources that you can deliver to readers after they sign up. Or create a free resource library (like we did!) to offer anyone of your list all of your free downloads in one place.

And after you generate email leads? Time to start using them!

Don't worry: We've got your back on this one. Check out all our best tips on how to write an awesome newsletter here.
